“A tax assessor was interviewing a godly, elderly widow whose cottage and little plot of land gave every evidence of poverty. She declared, “I am very rich.” Taking out his book, the assessor said, “Please list your possessions. The widow replied, “I have, first, eternal life; second, a mansion in heaven; third, joy unspeakable and peace that passeth understanding.” The assessor put away his book, sighing, “You are indeed a rich woman but none of your riches are taxable.” Neither were her riches purchasable.”
